Welcome to the Health Care Disparities Forums, an initiative committed to addressing and reducing healthcare delivery, access, and health outcome inequities. Through these forums, we bring healthcare professionals, educators, researchers, and community leaders together to discuss, analyze, and develop actionable strategies to tackle disparities affecting our community.
Our goal is to foster inclusive dialogue on the social, economic, and systemic factors contributing to health disparities and empower participants with the tools and knowledge needed to create equitable healthcare systems. We aim to:
- Elevate awareness of healthcare inequities
- Identify solutions to reduce barriers to healthcare
- Promote culturally responsive care
- Inspire changes that advance health equity

The Shared Shelf
A monthly book club dedicated to health, justice, and solidarity!
The Shared Shelf Book Club encourages vital conversations within the College of Medicine- The club was founded by Julie Armin, a faculty member in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and Director of the Health Disparities Curriculum at the College of Medicine. “The book club is something that’s been on the mind of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for a while, but it is part of a broader initiative throughout the College of Medicine to address racism in medicine. So the goal is to really engage in critical and sometimes uncomfortable discussions and build collegiality in the college,” Armin said. “We try to keep it comfortable so people don’t feel pressure. This isn’t a course – this is enrichment, personal enrichment,” Armin said. Armin helps facilitate each meeting to encourage meaningful discourse between the diverse perspectives of the group members. “We have everyone from faculty, both clinical and non-clinical, so physicians and researchers and non-medical undergraduates, medical students, staff. It's been an interesting mix of people,” Armin said. Click HERE to read the full news article featured in The Daily Wildcat!
The Shared Shelf Community Agreement
- Practice the gift of grace: we are all on a path of learning and are striving to do the best we can. Anti-racism work is a process.
- Risk-taking and courage are needed to achieve sustainable change since systems of power perpetuate themselves.
- If you are a very talkative person, practice giving the gift of listening; if you are usually quiet, practice giving the gift of your thoughts and words.
